This is one of the good quality 100% fine silk carpet with Persian pattern . The combination of vegetable and chemical dyes has been used in this carpet. It has been made by the Uyghur (or Uyghur ethnic group) who account for 46.7 percent and are the largest of the Turkic groups in Eastern Turkistan. For most of the past ten centuries, these people have lived under the control of the Mongolian peoples. The Uyghur make their living in the Tian Shan mountain range as nomads (though the nomadic population is decreasing), herding sheep, goats, cows, horses, and camels. In oases near the Taklimakan Desert, they engage in farming with the aid of irrigation canals or underground waterways to run melt water. Wheat, corn, cotton, and fruit (grapes, watermelons, and muskmelons) are popular crops. Trading is actively carried out across borders in the southwestern cities, where people weave carpets both wool and silk. Buying one rug from Uyghurs may result in feeding entire family for a year. Many families that make these rugs have done so for generations, passing on the skills from mother to daughter for hundreds of years, generation to generation.
